Clearances for Teaching Artists

Teaching Artists are required to maintain current clearances in accordance to Pennsylvania State law and individual school district policies. Teaching Artists must submit to background checks from three agencies, complete one training, and sign one form before beginning any residency projects and submit clearances to Lindsay Huff, Assistant to Artists in Schools & Communities. Please follow the links below and email lhuff@pghartsmedia.org with any questions.

For the FBI / Criminal History Record Check (Act 114), Pennsylvania utilizes MorphoTrust/IdentoGO as the provider for this clearance as of November 2017. Please see this PA Dept. of Education page for more information and to look up your service code. The service code for working in public school districts is1KG6XN.

KeepKidsSafePA.gov also provides a good resource for understanding the clearance process. Please note that PA state law requires that any person having direct contact with children must provide clearances no more than 60 months (5 years) old. All clearances must have been obtained within that time period. However, please be aware that some school districts have set their own stricter standards regarding clearance procedures.
