Fiber Art

Intro to Needlepoint

Needlepoint is a handheld fiber art using a variety of stitches and thread types to create a functional or decorative piece of art. From traditional belts and pillows to modern sculptural stand ups, needlepoint can be used in an endless variety of ways. In this class you’ll learn how to get started with foundational needlepoint stitches, how to chart and paint your own canvas, and come away with a deeper understanding of how fiber selections and advanced stitches combine to create a wide spectrum of artistic expression. You’ll also gain an understanding of finishing options, and how to plan your projects for success. By the end of class you will have a fully stitched hand painted 4” canvas that can be turned into a variety of finished projects, as well as a reference practice canvas to keep for future project planning.
