Intro to Drypoint Etching

This Class is Full

Drypoint etching is a printmaking technique in the intaglio family, which includes techniques where an image is etched or incised into a plate. In drypoint, an artist will use a needle to scratch images directly onto a metal or plastic plate to create a raised surface called a “burr.” The “burr” holds the ink which produces the artist’s print. This technique is an accessible entry into the world of printmaking and etching, whether you have prior printmaking experience or are a complete beginner. In this class, students will use drawing techniques combined with etching to create an edition of prints featuring their unique imagery. They will explore elements of design, experiment with drawing techniques, and learn a historical technique they can recreate at home.
