Champlevé Enameling
Learn the traditional enameling technique of champlevé to create your own colorful, silver or copper jewelry. Champlevé is a technique in which troughs or cells are carved, etched, die struck, or cast into the surface of a metal object, and filled with enamel. The instructor will cover traditional approaches as well as the saw-and-solder champlevé method. Students will explore basic soldering and enameling techniques, etching and sawing techniques, and depletion gilding. Demonstrations will include wet-packing, stoning, and finishing techniques. Students are encouraged to experiment and make samples, but also to create a finished piece of jewelry by the end of the class. Basic enameling experience is required.
