Alternative Surface Design

Over this six week course we will explore different options for decorating the surface of your ceramic work. Students will hand-build pieces which we will then use to learn different methods of relief carving, stamping, and sprigged decorating. In place of traditional glazing, we will be learning how to build layers of washes on the work to help accentuate your designs as well as looking at some different low-fire decorating options. As part of the class, we will be thinking about how to incorporate two-dimensional imagery onto a three-dimensional form.
