Intermediate Jewelry & Metals

This course will cover small-scale hammer forming techniques including: basic raising/slumping, hollow construction and forming, and basic chasing and repousse. Students will become familiar with different types of hammers, steel forming stakes, hydraulic press, and annealing/soldering hollow forms. Projects covered will range from small-scale signet rings, hollow bracelets, and prong setting fabrication. No matter the size or shape of the gem, students will learn how to use wire and sheet metal to create strong custom settings. This course will cover the differences between wire and sheet metal settings as well as the best situations to use each. Perfect for students who’ve taken Intro to Metals, who are looking to take their skills to the next level and expand the possibilities for their creations!
