Joshua Hoffman

Instructor

Joshua has been studying art for over 15 years. He began oil painting in college where he quickly fell in love with landscape and plein-air painting.

Joshua believes there is something special about the connection a painter develops with their surroundings when they are routinely practicing plein-air painting. Through utilizing this process, he has learned to reflect not only his physical surroundings but also his personal experiences, which often are expressed through his use of enhanced colors and bold brush strokes.

Joshua studied fine arts at Edinboro University of PA. After leaving school in 2010,  he spent about a year traveling around PA painting plein-air and selling his works in the spots where he would paint. Eventually, Joshua made his way back to  Pittsburgh, and in 2017, his first daughter was born. Joshua then began working in social services. In 2021 he took a leap of faith and began the transition to becoming a full-time artist. In 2023, Joshua is grateful to say that this leap of faith worked, and he is now a full-time artist!
