Plein Air Paint Out

Join us for a Plein Air Paint-Out in Mellon Park on April 20th and 21st!

The two-day event will take place on Saturday, April 20th from 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM and on Sunday, April 21st 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM. Interested painters can still register! Just give us a call at 412-361-0455.

En plein aire is a French expression meaning “in the open air,” and is used to describe the art of  painting outdoors. Plein air artists capture the spirit and essence of a landscape or subject by incorporating natural light, color, and movement into their works. PCA&M has offered numerous Plein Air painting courses in its history, and this new event will utilize our Mellon Park campus to celebrate the art of painting outdoors. The plein air painting experience will be guided by local artists Tyler Gedman and Joshua Hoffman, who will be available throughout both days for questions and advice. Registrants should be comfortable painting mostly independently.

All who register for the paint-out will also be eligible to submit up to three paintings for jurying into PCA&M’s upcoming 2024 Fall exhibition. The juror for the exhibition will be Pittsburgh’s most well known plein air painter, Ron Donoughe. Ron will also be leading a Plein Air Painting Crash Course on April 6th where participants will learn how to set themselves up for success while painting outside. Previous painting experience is helpful for this event, but not required.
