Opening Reception: “It’s About Time” & “Time Spent On”

Join us for the opening reception of two exhibitions focusing on time and the experience of artists!

“It’s About Time” is a solo exhibition from our ceramic artist in residence, Katie Botterman that expresses the frustrations with the human experience of time. Incorporating cuneiform, an ancient script that links our history with clay to these new ceramic works.

Katie Botterman is a ceramic artist and instructor from Pittsburgh, PA. She earned her BFA from Ohio University in 2021, after which she completed a residency at New Harmony Clay Project, IN. Currently, Botterman works at the North Hills Art Center and is creating new work as the ceramic artist in residence at Pittsburgh Center for Arts + Media.

Recently, Botterman has been focusing on sculptural works that explore time and human perceptions. She heavily incorporates cuneiform writing which stems from her interest in ancient peoples, prehistory, and how clay has always been our creative companion. Humans, no matter when we are from, share the instinctual desire to mark our existence.

“Time Spent On” features over 70 mugs and cups made by members of PCA&M, and showcases a large variety of style and form in the art of creating vessels. The exhibition shares and focuses on the insights artists give into the time spent throughout the creative process.
