Digital Illustration: Repeating Surface Patterns

In this class we will be designing repeat surface patterns. Students will learn techniques to draw patterns traditionally by hand as well as with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. Student will have an opportunity to experiment with traditional media along with digital programs while getting an introduction to different types of repeating patters as well as a chance to explore historical methods and contemporary surface design. Over the course of the term, students will build a small pattern collection. This class is great for students who are interested in creating digital patterns for work that remains digital, or for other applications like screenprinting or ceramic decals. No experience with drawing or digital programs is needed, though it might be helpful!
