Poetry Writing Workshop

Delve deep into contemporary poetry in this class for writers of all levels. Each class will focus on a different formalistic mode or theme (like the pastoral or confessional), while engaging foundational techniques of poetic craft (like linebreaks, imagery, or metaphor). Students will be guided in experimentation to test the limits of language and its combinations. Students will learn to construct poems not just from careful crafting, but from obsessive revision. We will free write in class and consider work by published poets, and students’ creative work will be discussed constructively in a workshop format. Come with pen, paper, and a readiness to explore!
