Intro to Rib Basketry: Ribbed Wicker Fruit Tray

Discover the art of rib basketry in this one-day workshop. Students will learn the fundamentals of rib basket construction, including how to build a sturdy rattan frame and weave round wicker over ribs to create a beautiful and functional fruit tray. Perfect for holding garlic, apples, or other kitchen essentials, this project introduces foundational basketry skills that can be applied to future rib basket designs. No prior experience is required.

For those who enjoy working with natural materials, a wild basketry option is available. Students may choose to build a branch frame before class and bring it with them to create a more rustic, nature-inspired fruit tray. Instructions for preparing a branch frame will be provided in advance. Students will need to bring clothes pins and a dish towel. Materials fee of $18 payable to the instructor first day of class.
