Creative Writing

Intro to Creative Writing

Writing is a skill that can be taught given curiosity and practice. This eight-week workshop explores the fundamental elements of creative prose including voice, dialogue, imagery, character development, structure, and diction. Students will also examine the habits and strategies of published authors, such as reading like an author and the revision process, to further develop their own writing. Each session will provide students with a craft discussion, guided writing exercise, and workshopping opportunities in a supportive environment. Through weekly writing assignments, students will receive both instructor and peer feedback while cultivating practices to further grow their craft. Students will leave with a sense of assurance and tools that they can use in future writing. Whether you are a new or returning author, this class meets you where you are and gives you the confidence to keep going.
