Fundamentals of Fiction Craft: The Situation

In this class, we will focus on the importance of a situation to a short story and a short story writer. Oftentimes, in the early stages of writing a story, we find ourselves waiting for the story to write us. We will discuss how to explore a situation with a clear beginning, middle, and end that helps corral our need to investigate every nook and cranny of the story world and characters. Digging into the situation of a story will give writers a roadmap that keeps the story moving forward to a point of conclusion without too much wasted space in between.
