Fundamentals of Fiction Craft: Setting and Place

In this short class, we will navigate the complexity of setting and place in a work of literary fiction and explore how to get the very most of the fullness of the setting in which our literary fiction stories take place. Far more than a point of latitude and longitude on a map or two players at a table in a kitchen, setting, when presented effectively, encompasses a world of details and information that help to both ground your reader and submerges them in the fullness of a place, its history, peoples, geological record, weather, topography, folkways, and on, and on. It might be one of the more important and often ignored items of craft a writer can learn and use to achieve, “the next level,” from their writing.

This class will be held online, via Zoom.
