Position summary:
The primary purpose of this position is to oversee, organize and maintain our studio spaces and interact/engage directly with the techs and instructors working in specific areas to create a high level of function and ease of use for members, students, and teaching artists. This position also has a strong emphasis in coordinating/managing a fast paced ceramics studio. This is a full-time position paying $40,000 per year, with competitive benefits package including health insurance and paid time off. Studio use and access is also included.
Applicants must have previous experience firing kilns of all types: electric, gas, atmospheric, and raku.
Essential functions and responsibilities:
Management of Ceramics Studio
- Load and fire electric, soda, and gas kilns; perform regular raku firings
- Perform essential duties to ensure the orderly operation of the studio, including but not limited to: ordering clay and other supplies, mixing glazes, and general studio upkeep and cleanup
- Serve as the primary point of contact for ceramics members, managing communications about studio closures, announcements, and open studio schedule. Create studio policies and rules for members and students and effectively communicate policies
- Coordinate onboarding of new members, instructors, and students as needed, including but not limited to: facilitating studio tours, designating storage space, adding to studio email list, sharing studio policies and rules, and working closely with the Director of Education and the Member and Donor Coordinator to ensure timely onboarding
- Serve as a mentor to annual Ceramics Artist in Residence in both the studio and in the execution of their exhibition
- Support growth relationships between AIR and members in relation to formal and informal critiques and lessons
- Work with the front desk on sales of clay and kiln space for specific member based firings
Management of All Studios
- Make sure all studios are in working order, restock supplies, communicate cleaning and repair needs to facilities and cleaning persons, and communicate with instructors to assess needs. Primary studios directly responsible for: 2-D, Annex, Metals, Printmaking
- Serve as the liaison between the studios and the Director of Education, working with lead instructors and Media Tech to identify needs and problems, gather supplies for classes and workshops, create and execute policies on studio use and cleanup for classes, and perform other duties to support programming
- Assess and execute studio improvements, including but not limited to researching and purchasing new or improved tools/storage/and environmental needs
- Create and maintain policies on studio membership in ceramics, printmaking, and media alongside Member and Donor Coordinator, Media Tech, and lead Printmaking Instructor
- Explore and create Artist In Residence programing for studios beyond ceramics alongside Artist Services Manager
- Identify opportunities to work with and support grant writing for studio needs

Work Days and Shifts:
Position works Monday – Friday, daylight/evening hours, and additional time to complete work and fire kilns as needed. This is an in-person position
Education/Certification(s)/License(s) required:
- Bachelor’s degree in an art field; BFA, Art Ed.
- A minimum of 2 years experience working as a studio tech or studio manager, with experience firing kilns of all types: electric, gas, atmospheric, raku
Experience/Other required:
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google drive
- Previous experience working for an arts-based non-profit is a plus
- Previous experience maintaining a ceramic studio is a plus.

Position summary:
The primary purpose of this position is to help oversee programming for PCA&M’s Summer Camp initiative, which includes 10 weeks of immersive studio and media arts camps serving up to 1,000 students annually. This position will work closely with the summer camp director and one other assistant to ensure all summer camp programming runs smoothly and efficiently, delivering high-quality learning experiences to youth ages 6-17 years of age. We are seeking one assistant with traditional media experience, such as drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics, and metalsmithing, and one assistant with digital media and photography experience, such as graphic design, darkroom photography, digital animation, and digital illustration.
Essential functions and responsibilities:
- Provide assistance in facilitation of programming for Summer Art Camp classes, including but not limited to: Help teachers organize their lesson plans and supplemental classroom materials; ensure the smooth operation of all day-to-day procedures related to the Summer Camp program; make sure camps have necessary materials, equipment, and software.
- Coordinate student/family and instructor surveys.
- Coordinate necessary paperwork related to instructor contracts, ensure signed contracts are on file for each instructor; coordinate with finance department accordingly.
- Assist with camp-related communication, including communications with instructors, parents, and PCA&M staff
- Coordinate creation of camp-related materials such as attendance sheets, medical forms, emergency plans, etc.
- Intervene with students if behavioral issues arise beyond the capacity of instructor, and help to facilitate successful outcomes.
- Oversee and work within a specific budget for the related programming. Ensure that expenditures (materials/supplies) are within reason and within the confines of the budget.
- Manage program-related facility and supply needs, including but not limited to: Care and upkeep of software, facilities, and equipment; ensure all necessary supplies are available for classes. Organize and recover supplies and materials used for camps so that they may be easily located after initial usage.
- Oversee and work directly to facilitate pre and post-camp components of summer camps.
- Assist in the classroom with camps, as needed.
- Perform other duties as needed.

Experience/Other required:
- Two (2) to five (5) years of arts education experience
- Prior experience teaching children preferred.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel and various software.
- Previous experience working for an arts-based non-profit is a plus.

Information about our classes: We serve 500-600 students per seasonal term, and we have four terms per year. We hold evening classes Monday – Thursday from 6:30 PM – 9:30 PM and daytime classes Monday – Sunday, at 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM or 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM. It is rare that we offer classes outside of these timeframes. Instructors are independent contractors, and while we don’t operate off of a set curriculum, we do prefer that instructors have experience creating classes and lesson plans.
