Reports to: Summer Camp Director & Education Manager
FLSA status: Non–Exempt
Position summary:
The primary purpose of this position is to help oversee programming for PCA&M’s Summer Camp initiative, which includes 10 weeks of immersive studio and media arts camps serving up to 1,000 students annually. This position will share responsibilities with a Co-Director, essentially directing the season’s entire educational program, and ensuring that all curricula runs smoothly as programmed. This position will work closely with the summer camp director and one other assistant. This person will also work closely with the Media Equipment Coordinator to ensure our photography, animation, and digital classes run effectively.
Essential functions and responsibilities:
- Oversee all programming for Summer Art Camp classes, including but not limited to: Help teachers organize their lesson plans and supplemental classroom materials; ensure the smooth operation of all day-to-day procedures related to the Summer Camp program; make sure media camps have proper software, equipment, and materials.
- Issue and review evaluations and feedback and maintain database for instructor feedback; Maintain databases for instructor/assistant background checks and for student medical information; Respond to negative evaluations as appropriate.
- Coordinate student/family and instructor surveys.
- Coordinate necessary paperwork related to instructor contracts, ensure signed contracts are on file for each instructor; coordinate with finance department accordingly.
- Intervene with students if behavioral issues arise beyond the capacity of instructor, and help to facilitate successful outcomes.
- Oversee and work within a specific budget for the related programming. Ensure that expenditures (materials/supplies) are within reason and within the confines of the budget.
- Manage program-related facility and supply needs, including but not limited to: Care and upkeep of software, facilities, and equipment; ensure all necessary supplies are available for classes. Organize and recover supplies and materials used for camps so that they may be easily located after initial usage.
- Oversee and work directly to facilitate pre and post-camp components of summer camps.
- Assist in the classroom with camps, as needed.
- Perform other duties as needed.

- Incumbent will be required to use a computer with keyboard, telephone or handheld mobile device for extended periods of time, and office machinery as needed.
- Individual may occasionally be required to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Incumbent must be able to read, see, hear, and speak.
Work Days and Shifts:
Position is required to work varying schedules during Summer Art Camp open hours Monday – Friday. Incumbent must be available for all ten weeks of our summer camps.
Education/Certification(s)/License(s) required:
- Bachelors degree in Fine Arts, Education, or related field of study or equivalent experience.
- Valid driver’s license, as local travel is frequent.
Experience/Other required:
- Two (2) to five (5) years of arts education experience, including experience with media arts such as animation, photography, digital illustration, coding, etc.
- Prior experience teaching children preferred.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel and various software.
- Previous experience working for an arts-based non-profit is a plus.

Information about our classes: We serve 400-500 students per seasonal term, and we have four terms per year. We hold evening classes Monday – Thursday from 6:30 PM – 9:30 PM and daytime classes Monday – Sunday, at 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM or 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM. It is rare that we offer classes outside of these timeframes. Instructors are independent contractors, and while we don’t operate off of a set curriculum, we do prefer that instructors have experience creating classes and lesson plans.
