Journey to Mars

Explore the surface of Mars, so similar to earth, yet unknown to man! Create a creature that crawls across the land, imagine a terrain, and experience an extraterrestrial adventure like you’ve never seen before! Learn how to portray the characteristics of life in space through drawing, painting, paper mache, and more.

Monsters, Wizards, and Magical Things (6-8)

Travel to a magical realm where dragons and wizards roam. Transform a mythical creature in your mind into reality through 2-D sketches and 3-D maquettes. Expand your wizard horizons as you conduct experiments to create colorful potions and conjure up rhythmic spells. Complete your magical experience by constructing a magical wand, sculpting a companion animal, and designing enchanting costumes.

Fairy Tales and Fables

Create your own “Once upon a time…” in this fantastical camp! If you’ve ever wondered how to turn your own imaginary tales into real-life books, then grab your pencils and paintbrushes and come learn how to tell your own stories. We’ll explore treaured fairy tales and add our own spin, complete with illustrations. We’ll even make our own books! Join us and bring magical worlds to life!

Art Adventures

Grab your passport! Voyage to cities and country sides across the globe in search of great art. Be inspired by Vincent Van Gogh when you paint portraits and beautiful landscapes. Learn to draw and paint from observation, then experiment with more abstract ideas. Investigate a variety of art materials, techniques, and skills that famous artists use to guide you on your trip around the world.

Monet Masterpieces

Get inspired by Claude Monet in this painting camp focused on the impressionist movement! Create paintings inspired by Monet’s masterpieces using expressionist techniques. We’ll also explore the gardens of Mellon Park, taking inspiration from the various flora like Monet in the gardens in Giverny.

Animated Creations

Create a world of your own that’s filled with zany characters, sets, props, and original stories. In this camp, we will learn the basics of stop-motion animation, creating stories through sculpture, drawing, painting, and collage. After crafting the pieces needed to bring our stories to life, we will use iPads and apps to animate our props and characters, leaving with short videos to share with family and friends at the end of the week!

Stop-Motion Animation

Ever wonder how to create art that moves? Want to create stories that you can share? In this camp, we’ll create worlds of our own filled with characters from our own imaginations using stop-motion animation! Through sculpture, drawing, painting, and collage, we will prepare all the storytelling elements we need to bring everything to life using iPads and animation apps. At the end of the week, share your stories with your fellow campers in a special screening!

Furry and Scaly (Ages 6 – 8)

Jump into the wild during this class filled with friends from the outdoors. We’ll be experimenting with textures in drawings, paintings, and sculptures as we learn about big cats, slimy snakes, and many other members of the animal kingdom. As the week progresses, we’ll adventure to different habitats around the world and transform our classroom into a kingdom of our own. Grab your safari hats and binoculars because we’re not in Pittsburgh anymore!

Collaged Creations (Ages 6-8)

Make a new piece of art from many little pieces! In this class students will learn basic composition, and how to use negative space. We will also touch on color theory. Cutting up magazines has never been so much fun!
