Venture outside and discover the brilliance of the world around you while painting “in open air.” Depict rich and varied environments while exploring PCA&M’s beautiful grounds and nearby landscape in Mellon Park and Shadyside. Become more familiar with contemporary painting techniques such as watercolor landscapes, gesture sketches, and acrylic application. The outdoors will give your imaginations extra space to run wild. (Please plan on being outside for the majority of this camp).

Print Like Andy
Learn the magic of screenprinting in this camp inspired by Pittsburgh artist, Andy Warhol! We’ll talk about the Pop Art movement, artists influenced by Andy Warhol, and Andy’s major works. We’ll take photographs and hand-drawn designs from paper to print, making posters, t-shirts, and more.
Creative Writing Workshop (Ages 11-13)
Future novelists, poets, and memoirists will get a taste of each form in this writing class. Through exercises, readings, and workshops of each other’s writing, students will take their own writing to the next level. Routes to publication will be explored to ensure students are ready to share their stories with the world.
Traditional-to-Digital Illustration
In this collaboratively-taught camp with local artists Lizzee Solomon and Joe Mruk, students will dive into the worlds of digital and analog illustration! The camp will split into two groups and spend half the day with each artist, in this unique experience where they will explore both traditional illustration skills such as printmaking and drawing, along with digital illustration skills in Procreate and Adobe Illustrator. In this immersive workshop, you’ll create original work of your own while learning about the power and prevalence of illustration in our society.
Metals & Glass
Explore the intersections of metal and glass in this new course offered in PCA&M’s jewelry studio! Campers will sample a range of processes including stained glass, glass fusing, enameling, and metalsmithing.
Art in Nature
Use found objects, mixed media, fibers techniques, wood, and metal to create site-specific works of art around the PCA&M grounds and Mellon Park. Campers will utilize elements of design on three-dimensional forms that can become hanging mobiles, fairy gardens, wind chimes, and other sources of delight. Get your hands dirty by incorporating live plants and help design and create a collaborative sculpture installation as well!

The world of printmaking is huge! In this camp you’ll experiment with different techniques, methods, and materials needed to create different types of prints. Explore relief printing, etching, and monoprinting all in one week! You’ll have enough prints by the end of the week to decorate your entire house.

Foundations of Sewing (Ages 11-13)
Become familiar with using a sewing machine and learn the basics of joining fabric. Utilize a number of different machine and hand stitches, explore fundamental sewing techniques, and broaden your horizons of fiber art. Leave at the end of class having created personal, functional, and decorative items for you and your home.
