2025 Seasonal Summer Camp Assistants

Reports to: Summer Camp Director & Director of Education

FLSA status: NonExempt

Position summary:  

The primary purpose of this position is to help oversee programming for PCA&M’s Summer Camp initiative, which includes 10 weeks of immersive studio and media arts camps serving up to 1,000 students annually. This position will work closely with the summer camp director and one other assistant to ensure all summer camp programming runs smoothly and efficiently, delivering high-quality learning experiences to youth ages 6-17 years of age. We are seeking one assistant with traditional media experience, such as drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics, and metalsmithing, and one assistant with digital media and photography experience, such as graphic design, darkroom photography, digital animation, and digital illustration.

Essential functions and responsibilities:

  • Provide assistance in facilitation of programming for Summer Art Camp classes, including but not limited to: Help teachers organize their lesson plans and supplemental classroom materials; ensure the smooth operation of all day-to-day procedures related to the Summer Camp program; make sure camps have necessary materials, equipment, and software.
  • Coordinate student/family and instructor surveys.
  • Coordinate necessary paperwork related to instructor contracts, ensure signed contracts are on file for each instructor; coordinate with finance department accordingly.
  • Assist with camp-related communication, including communications with instructors, parents, and PCA&M staff
  • Coordinate creation of camp-related materials such as attendance sheets, medical forms, emergency plans, etc.
  • Intervene with students if behavioral issues arise beyond the capacity of instructor, and help to facilitate successful outcomes.
  • Oversee and work within a specific budget for the related programming. Ensure that expenditures (materials/supplies) are within reason and within the confines of the budget.  
  • Manage program-related facility and supply needs, including but not limited to: Care and upkeep of software, facilities, and equipment; ensure all necessary supplies are available for classes. Organize and recover supplies and materials used for camps so that they may be easily located after initial usage.
  • Oversee and work directly to facilitate pre and post-camp components of summer camps.
  • Assist in the classroom with camps, as needed.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

  • Incumbent will be required to use a computer with keyboard, telephone or handheld mobile device for extended periods of time, and office machinery as needed.  
  • Individual may occasionally be required to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Incumbent must be able to read, see, hear, and speak.

Work Days and Shifts:

Position is required to work varying schedules during Summer Art Camp open hours Monday – Friday. Incumbent must be available for all ten weeks of our summer camps.

Education/Certification(s)/License(s) required:

  • Bachelors degree in Fine Arts, Education, or related field of study or equivalent experience. 
  • Valid driver’s license, as local travel is frequent. 

Experience/Other required:

  • Two (2) to five (5) years of arts education experience
  • Prior experience teaching children preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel and various software.
  • Previous experience working for an arts-based non-profit is a plus.
