Assemble
Assemble unites artists, technologists, and makers with our neighbors of all demographics. Assemble provides a platform for experiential learning, opening creative processes, and building confidence through making.
Assemble is a community space for arts and technology located in Garfield, in the East End of Pittsburgh. Through dedicated, daily after-school programs, Assemble provides a space for children and adults to engage with Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM)-based activities in a fun, relaxed environment. We provide a space for learning, community, and public art to improve the quality of life for Garfield residents.
Over the past 9 years, Assemble has steadily gained the capacity to serve youth both in Garfield and throughout the city. Since our founding as a non-profit in 2011, we have reached over 20,000 youth in the Pittsburgh area, and each year we serve about 2,400 students through sustained programming. Assemble also provides enrichment programs in-schools and at other locations during the day, after school, and summer.
Assemble envisions a diverse community that creates, connects, and learns through the experience of art and technology. Through these experiences, our community can apply contemporary knowledge and leverage new connections to artists, makers, and technologists to bring their agency into fruition. Assemble is the on-ramp for students of all ages to take their ideas into the world with the confidence and the skills that support it. Assemble is also a place where artists and creators come to share their own practices with others, deepening their own concepts and projects with new diverse input. Assemble brings people together to overcome boundaries of class, education, and location to foster new collaborations and insight. It’s a safe place to try, to fail, to build, and to practice.
Assemble utilizes art to demystify science and science to demystify art. We want all youth to succeed in school, and to feel confident about participation in science, technology, and arts classes. We want to give students the necessary skills to participate in the 21st-century workforce. Assemble is a laboratory to help catalyze people to take and make the world what they want or need it to be.
