Intro to Relief Printmaking

Relief printmaking (printing from a block with a raised surface, typically wood or linoleum) is the oldest of the many different printmaking techniques. It is also the most accessible to beginners. It is a very hands on and intuitive process that yields rewarding results rapidly. In this course students will be given a broad overview of basic and intermediate techniques and be exposed to a variety of common approaches taken by artists to create artworks using this diverse medium. This course is an ideal option for both the beginner seeking a substantive foundation, or the more experienced printmaker seeking a refresher or exposure to new approaches to the medium. Students will have the opportunity both to experiment with multiple techniques, and produce multiple unique artworks.
