Solarprinting uses the power of the sun to expose the colors of a UV-sensitive dye applied to fabric. Placing objects on the surface before exposure leaves behind a “reverse shadow” on the dyed material. In this class we will be creating unique prints using plants foraged from our urban surroundings as our subject matter. Students will learn to identify plants that work best for solarprinting as well as techniques for pressing and preserving their finds for future use. The finished dyed and printed fabric will be used to design and sew decorative pillows and wall hangings for the home.
