Ceramics & Sculpture

1/2 Handbuilding, 1/2 Wheelthrowing

Try your hand at making functional ceramic items for your home by using both handbuilding and wheelthrowing. Techniques such as slump forming, press molding, and slab building will be covered with an emphasis on surface design and texture. Make simple wheel thrown forms like cups, bowls and plates and embellish them with your hand made alterations. We will cover clay and glaze properties, slips, oxides, glaze application, and firing. Students should have at taken at least one Intro to Ceramics course before. Tuition includes 25 lbs of clay, glazes and firings. Students should purchase a clay tool kit, which is available on-site.
